London at the first glance
Sitting in Caffee Nero (the type they use makes the O look like a D so at first I was really excited to go eat at cafe nerd and use their free wifi, oh well) updating and watching all the london folk go about their day. The first thing I noticed when glancing out the window of the airplane was the giant highway going through the rolling acres and the fact that the cars were all on the wrong side. Second was the castle of course. But you have to love it that when you land suddenly the voice over the loudspeaker telling you arrived is a british accented ground crew. I thought they might have been hiding the british stewardess in the back until we got there then let her out as a little surprise.
Customs was fairly easy, specially since that was what I was the most nervous about. I didn't even have to show my fake itinerary. The guy just asked me about school and stuff like that. It did take an hour to get through that line though. And yes I had the 9 hour flight next to some big dude who had to get an extra extendable seat belt and whos tray could only lay pretty much vertically the whole time with his food falling off of it. But I did have the aisle seat so I shoved my self as far over as possible and enjoyed my 2 movies, dinner, and breakfast with about 2 hours of sleep in there. My ears do not seem to handle flight that well though, even now I'm sitting here 5 hours later and I still can't hear to my full extent.
Enough about the plane, IM IN LONDON!!! I was going to take the shuttle to the hostile but promptly got shuffled along and felt it necessary to take the underground, who can pass up that cute little sign of a crossed out O that seems to be everywhere in London. I sort of wished that I had never been on a New York train because it seems to be pretty much the same but it was still pretty cool. I got my first breath of fresh air after 14 hours in an airport and saw the brown old style london looking houses all in a row. The whole ride was pretty much contentedly sitting back with my arm guarding my backpack and my ears taking in the posh sounds of the british voices and my eyes staring at the very much london styles. Some are so classy, some are just downright London, with their black shoes and stocky stockings. Every british 20 something year old I see here seems to have class dialed in, as I type a girl with a leather jacket, skirt, stylish boots, white scarf, pearl earrings, and classy purse steps in. It definitely makes me slightly jealous as well as determined to come home with a little bit of that class added on. The situation of just having my small backpack makes it a hard thing to do but lets see what I can pull off.
The hostile is pretty much in a round about corner and man did I have the hardest time finding it. For one I started to believe they really didn't have street signs here and somehow every londoner had a gps implanted in their brain. Finally I started to look up farther and past the light poles and realized that they were on the sides of the buildings. Not the most convenient of things let me tell you, plus although they may have arrows pointing to where that street actually goes, when your standing in the middle of about 6 streets branching off from one point theres no way you can know which one is going which. Its not normal like it would be across of course, no it could be 3 or 2 over. Finally arriving at the hostel I run and get settled in, charge up the internet card and shoot a quick email to show im actually alive and safe and then try to leave the hostel. Yeah, I have never worked a real live lift before in my life. I finally figure out how to get in and then stand there having no idea how to get the door to close. Turns out after I end up going back to the 7th floor on the lift after having walked to the first on the stairs and realizing only the lift goes there that I had been pushing the one button on the lift that wasnt actually a floor so of course its not going to close. The guys who got on looked at me like I was an idiot until I explained that I in fact was one.
Now I am in this caffee were watching, more and more london stuff is occurring. The barista just walked out to the curb with a bucket of waste and threw it into the street. Okay I guess thats pretty much the only difference I can see while in here, but man there are alot of tourists. Pretty much everybody I've been hearing and seeing are from somewhere else completely. It's a little disappointing I will admit but all of it is still cool.
Alright time to go out and experience this London city. Maybe get my first legal drink ;)
P.S. the conversion is crazy ridiculous!!!! Spending way to much money on cheap stuff
